Writing videos

All aboard! Join us on this special travel edition as we show you five writing and publishing challenges that are just like train travel. No, really—travel takes time, effort, and energy, as well as planning and forethought and flexibility. Turns out, so does writing and working toward publication. We were inspired by our recent Amtrak trip to Denver, Colorado, and want to share the inspiration and encouragement we discovered along the route with you, our fellow writers and travelers on the writing journey.

We don’t like dirty feet, dirty hands, dirty jokes, clothes, or carpet. We don’t like dirty anything, really, especially young adult books. So we’ve created our own young adult book genre we call Clean Steam (also known as No Spice), and we don’t write ‘em dirty. Our stories feature real teen issues, emotions, and reactions that are just steamy enough to keep it real but clean enough you won’t blush in front of your mama. Many young adult books misrepresent the teenage experience by portraying teenagers as reckless and defiant, but we believe they’re the coolest people on the planet.

Let’s talk about agent rejection letters. Agent rejection letters, the big fat “no thanks”, the dead end of one possibility. And while we’re at it, let’s be honest: rejection hurts. If you haven’t been rejected as a writer, you’ve probably only shared your work with your mom and/or grandma. We’ve shared our writing with many people, including beta readers, our writer’s group and, scariest of all, agents and publishers. So, yeah—we’ve been rejected. A lot. We’ve decided to share a few of our agent rejection letters with you to prove that you can not only survive agent rejection but thrive because of it. What doesn’t kill us, makes us stronger right? We feel stronger and are going to help you feel stronger after agent rejection, too. Here goes…

We discuss 11 mistakes that all new and established writers make. Come learn and laugh with us on our journey to getting our books into the hands of readers! Learning from these steps will help you write an amazing book.
